BAKUGOU AND EXPECTATIONS

E X P E C T A T I O N S

INTRODUCTION

Katsuki Bakugou is a violent kid who can be unfriendly and even frightening. He’s known to be the bully of the show in a stereotypical and actual way being delusional former best friend turned to bully. He even said to Midoriya to commit suicide. Yet, he is one of the most beloved characters in the show. Why is that?

THE LEAD UP

As a child, Bakugou was praised for having a simple yet powerful quirk. He was praised by his classmates, family, and even teachers. This led to his major expectation for others to have a quirk, other wise, they would be a weakling. This also led to Midoriyas bullying for not having a quirk.

THE THING ABOUT PRAISE

Bakugou was praised for many things but praise can translate for many things. One, you can take it as a compliment as like a “You are Great!” “You are Amazing” and “You are just Extraordinary” But… it can be taken the wrong way as well. It could be taken as

“It would be really bad for you if you messed up”

BROKEN MIND, BROKEN PERSCEPTION

Bakugou later goes to UA for being the great Bakugou he is. He is put in UA. But… he is met with people better than you. There are two people in his class who are better than him in knowledge. Many students there can match Bakugou even with “Faulty ” quirks. Worst of all, Midoriya, The person who Bakugou made fun of and despised of, Finally got a quirk.

He begins to think. If Midoriya was silently taking all of this hate and suffering, was HE the weakling all along. This was slowly breaking him down everyday. Until he shattered

THE BREAKDOWN NO ONE EXPECTED

Bakugou challenges Midoriya to a duel one on one. This fight lets out all his frustration and hate he has. This is until, The author of My Hero Academia uplifts the curtain to the real, Katsuki Bakugou.

"Why did I end up having to chase after the back of someone who was always behind me?" 

We see this and we are immediately blown away. Was this Bakugou all along. Just like us Midoriya was surprised. All of this has made Bakugou sad and confused. Bakugou was crushed by others expectations set up by others and has been suffocating in it for years.

We also are guilty of this. We have been judging Bakugou since the start. But who could blame us? We have been judging Bakugou for his actions for this whole series. Maybe we should judge characters we hate with a more mindful view. And… Maybe we should do it in real life too…
