WHO IS HE?
Reigen Arataka is a Con man who “scams” people. If there is no spirit, Reigen will tell them what he really means. He is more of immature adult who somehow knows how to be mature. Reigen is also profound to panicking, yelling and sweating.
Reigen is a man guided by his principles and is socially and emotionally intelligent. He beleives that hurting others is wrong and shows it his student, Mob. Demonstrating his honorable side when near and covering his shady business.
PERSONALITY
Reigen is a straightforward and assertive man, often being intimidating when asserts himself when something is going on that he thinks is wrong.
But at other times, he could be a complete loser, often catching himself in the act of lying when with clients. His sweating, yelling, stuttering, and defensiveness can give him away. But, he sill tricks them either with Mobs help with his psychic powers or his way to stupidly persuade them.
REIGEN’S BIG CHANGE IN PERSPECTIVE
One of my favorite moments in Mob psycho is when in season 2, Mob tells Reigen he wants to experience the rest of his middle school and takes a break from his work. All of these scenes show Reigen’s loneliness. But he copes with this by his shenanigans by giving them other treatments like yoga and massages instead of actually exorcise them, which is Mobs job. Other things happen and Mob and Reigen meet each other again. Mob then reveals that he knew he was lying, but trusted him because he was a good person. This moment was bittersweet and almost left me crying as it was obvious that Reigen cared about mob, but he had learned about the value of people. He says on TV about how mob has grown up, putting his ideals behind him. This makes mob wait for him after he got out of the TV interview. CHARACTER DESIGN
Like most main characters in Mob Psycho, Reigen has a bland almost background character like design. I think this is because of his past as a souless office worker with no social, active or love life. Not even his parents are near where he worked.
MY OPINION
In my opinion, Reigen is a great character with depth and is an enjoyable character to see. His humor and liveliness makes he chuckle a lot. While selfish and a liar he has a good heart and knows what is truly right or wrong. But one thing that gets me wondering is that why was he originally a weird sweaty looking guy in the manga but a flashy and energetic person in the anime. I wonder!
